Here’s what $700K buys around Chicago

See homes in River North, Bronzeville, and West Loop

Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can buy for a set dollar amount in various Chicago neighborhoods. We’ve found five homes within $20,000 of today’s price: $700,000.

Bronzeville

Let’s begin with this stately Bronzeville mansion built in 1885. The three-story home comes with five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a finished basement, a steam sauna, and a whirlpool tub in the master bathroom. This statement home is listed for $699,900.

River North

Next up is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo in River North. The dramatic two-story living room windows steal the show here. Other perks of the property include a fireplace, a private balcony off the master bedroom, and an oversize steam shower. This unit is listed for $689,500 with $910 in HOA fees per month.

Ukrainian Village

Here is an artsy, modern condo building that was recently built in Ukrainian Village. Although this corner building doesn’t exactly match the workers cottages and two-flats in the neighborhood, the corrugated steel appeals to those with a more modern aesthetic. This penthouse unit, priced at $689,800, comes with high ceilings, large windows, a private outdoor deck, and the option to add a rooftop space.

West Loop

In the West Loop, consider this refinished two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit in the Heartbreak Lofts. It features exposed concrete, 12-foot ceilings, gorgeous windows, and a walk-in closet. The condo is listed at $709,900 and monthly HOA dues are $458.

West Rogers Park

This Rogers Park home was built in 1932 by architect Melvin A. Nelson for himself, according to the listing description. While it’s clear some areas of the home have experienced updates, old world charms remain such as the ornately carved gas fireplace, the pink tiled bathroom, and archways. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is listed at $699,000.
